What Is the INSPIRE Award
INSPIRE Awards-MANAK stands for Million Minds Augmenting National Aspirations and Knowledge. It is run by the Department of Science and Technology (DST), Government of India, together with the National Innovation Foundation-India (NIF). The scheme looks for original ideas from school students that solve a real problem using science, not projects that repeat a chapter from a textbook.
Each year, the scheme aims to collect ten lakh ideas from more than five lakh schools across the country. Out of these, about one lakh ideas are shortlisted for the ₹10,000 award.
Who Can Apply
- Students in Class 6 to 10, aged 10 to 15, from any recognised school — government, private, aided, or unaided.
- A school can also send up to two ideas from Class 11 or 12 students, but only from the Science stream.

How to Write and Build Your INSPIRE Award Project
- Pick a problem you’ve seen yourself. Not one you read about — one you’ve watched happen.
- Ask around. Talk to five people who face that problem and find out what they do about it right now.
- Draw it first. Sketch every part of your model on paper before you touch any material.
- List what you already have. Check home and school for parts before buying anything new — this also keeps your cost low, which judges notice.
- Build a rough version and test it. Does it actually solve the problem, or does it just look like it might?
- Write your synopsis in plain words. Cover four things only: the problem, your idea, how it works, and what it costs to build.
